Fun and Animation

Here is a spot for just a little fun and some animation. The animations may take a minute to finish loading, if you do not have broadband.

The spider and the mantis below are 3-D raytraced images. In fact, each model is the same one used in images in the gallery. To create these animations, I posed the model, rendered an image, and saved the image. Then I moved and posed the model again, and repeated these steps for each frame. These animations are simple GIF files. An animated GIF file works much the same as a "flip-book" we made as kids. Each frame image is part of the GIF file, and your browser plays it, or "flips" the pages as defined in the GIF file. Each frame is set to display for a period of time (usually in hundredths of a second). Many of my animations are done this way. The "neon" sign above is similar. The frames for the Crumb animation below were obtained by scanning the comic book cover.

You'll find many more animations throughout this site.
You may also read more about imagery and raytracing here.

Okay, kids! Back to 1971... I still have mint condition Zap and Hytone comics! Can you believe it? Does anyone remember them? Does anyone under the age of 50 even know what I'm talking about? Anyway, in the back of Hytone (February 1971) is a six panel strip which I animated here. Best regards to R. Crumb!

Here's another image of a familiar Crumb character.
