Logos, elements and related samples

Roosl's Logos Logo

This page contains a few original logo, related elements and icon designs. Some are in use by clients, some were never used (that I know of). Some are "dummies" and have ficticious branding. Some are exactly what the client asked for (good examples of bad ideas). Some may have been proposed or used as part of another design. For example, an isotype may be part of another design, which may or may not be an isologotype. It (or the isologotype, or logo) may be part of a larger print project, such as a T-shirt design or graphic for other uses. Hence, this page includes all such related designs.

Designs below may be available. Ideas (proposed or not) which are not owned by a client belong to me. If you like a basic design idea, ask me about it. The branding (ficticious or not) only needs to be changed, and the basic design can be altered to suit.

Your art can be fancy, detailed or simple, as these examples show. High definition, animated, transparent or not, large or small, CGI or hand drawn. Custom resolutions insure a quality look and fit in any intended use. Unless specified for use only on a website or everyday print projects, all designs are available as vector graphics. Vector graphics are scalable for uses ranging from postage stamp size (business card) to many feet (storefront signage). What you see on your screen is raster graphics (tiny pixels).

Any graphic work may be produced as print ready PDF for industry standard submission to your printing company, and as vector graphics for signage. See my Design Services page for details and links to other sample designs.

If you develop software, I can also create icons from your logo or other image. Full sets of all sizes for all supported versions of Windows and Apple icons! Don't forget a favicon.ico for your website.

A design 2 inches wide at 300 dpi would be at least 6 inches wide viewed in your browser, so are are reduced in size for this page. File formats on this page include PNG, JPG (JPEG), and GIF.

Please do not assume that my own graphics on this site are the style I will provide for you (unless that is what you want). Don't assume that any sample work here is all that is available to you. I will design your custom graphics just for you, not the same thing I did for myself or someone else.

Logos and related elements

Logo Facts

A "logo" is composed of typography and does not have drawings (think Coca-Cola).
An "isotype" is a figurative image, a drawing representing a company without typography (think Nike's swoosh or Apple).
An "isologotype" combines a logo with isotype, having a drawing including typography.

I might begin with type, but combine the vector paths of converted fonts to create a graphic based on lettering. The result may then be considered an isotype.

For purposes of the samples on this page, a "logo" is any of these types, since most people wanting a logo don't have any idea what they really want, but hopefully this info helps. Many folks ask for a logo, but have in mind something else that should not (or cannot) be used as a logo.

If you are wanting a logo, think about what that means. A logo should be simple, stand alone, and fit in a variety of places. A logo is not an illustration loaded with complex graphics and slogans. A logo is not a design for a beer bottle label. An illustration or a label design may include your logo as a part of that larger design. Consider your business card. It's 2 x 3.5 inches. Your logo could occupy half of your card (which leaves little room for the card's intent), but should fit in a corner. If your logo can't be recognized (or read) in any size, it is a failure.

Graphic Design
Play with letters. Many effects can be added to this sort of simple design, which can be based on virtually any font.

Variations on a theme, illustrating the same design with modified elements. Based on my logo, these are used all over this site.

This client will use these designs for t-shirts, other print projects and her website.

All vector, the original of this design is ready for any use from business card size to a 60 foot storefront sign.

Adding elements and effects for other formats makes it versatile for many other uses.

Icons

Of course, these are not icons themselves, but are images representing some icon designs. Icons are small images stored in a file (.ico for Windows, .icns and .rsc for Mac), of various dimensions for use by applications and operating systems.

Icons are always square. If you have a logo or image to make icons from, realize that only some square portion of it will be used. Resolution and simplicity are important, as some icons are tiny (only 16x16 pixels), and at that size, a complicated image will be hard to recognize.

Of course, I use my own logo for my software icons. These two were made specifically for my spam blocker program. A portion of the first image is used for the tiny 16x16 icons.
