Got graphics? Need graphics? Need a custom solution?
Please do not assume that my own graphics on this site are the style I will provide for you (unless that is what you want). Don't assume that any sample work here is all that is available to you. I will design custom graphics just for you, not the same thing I did for myself or another client.
I have a full range of custom design services available.
- High resolution site graphics
- Cover art
- Magazine Layout
- Interactive Flash Presentations
- Banners
- Logos
- Icons
- Any Graphic Production!
- Do you like this site? I am also available for many site design needs, other than large e-commerce sites. My HTML and CSS is w3c compliant, clean and hand crafted, and tested for compatibility on popular browsers (see browser info below). If you are considering a website (large or small) and are seeking a website designer, creating your own website (or the one you have doesn't work), please read this page.
- See the Design Services page for complete design services information.
- View my interactive Portfolio (Flash or PDF).
I've done some work for free. I've also sold artwork to webmasters, and produce print graphics for various offline production use. Custom work is always available.
A popular destination here is the 3D Gallery. Go.
Other Great Stuff! Custom software and FREE downloads in my Software Section.
If I may earn a few bucks selling my humble software offerings, good for me. However, most of that stuff is free. Lots of stuff here, such as utilities, desktop automation and nice toys.
Other than some outside link banners and a few icons, all the art on these pages is original work. Explore, discover, and enjoy your time here.

Given the nature and purpose of this site...
For optimum experience with the site and art viewing, a broadband connection and high resolution is best. My stats have shown that some of my visitors still have the old 800x600 screen resolution! Are you kidding? Others are better, most at 1280x1024 and 1024x768. I like the new wide display at 1680x1050. My 3D images are rendered at 100 dpi/ppi. Unfortunately for those with low resolution, this means that an 800x600 gallery image may not fit on your screen. However, not all the artwork is designed just for viewing online, although I do hope you are able to enjoy it.
As well, like any application, you may want to resize your browser window so the presentation fits. I have strived to insure that the design has a good look and feel with popular browsers, and my HTML and CSS design passes validation by the w3c. See the current browser notes below.
If you use an outdated version of Internet Explorer (IE 6 or worse), please get version 7 or 8. Many design samples are presented in PNG image format, a newer and better format supporting transparency. Older versions of IE do not render PNG correctly, and they will appear to be inside a box.
This site utilizes Javascript and presents Java applets and browser functionality (such as ActiveX) utilizing such features. Simple fun such as animation triggered by moving your mouse over a graphic requires Javascript and ActiveX. Some pages, such as the gallery viewer, and some links to informational documents want you to allow pop-ups from this site. I realize that many malefactors out here abuse such tools, causing folks to disable it to avoid risk. However, you have my promise that this site contains no malicious code.
This is a graphic site by purpose, and in several places you'll find interaction and fun stuff, such as simply moving your mouse over a graphic. So, if you have turned off graphics, disabled Java, Javascript, inline frames, site styles, or must have low resolution and huge fonts, just go google yourself.
Java and Javascript...
Java is developed by Sun Microsystems. It is a platform-independent language designed to run on any OS. Hence, each OS must have it's own Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in order to run Java applications. For web-based applications (applets), the OS (such as Windows) and your browser (such as Internet Explorer) need their JRE installed in order to run them. The Sun Java installation also performs automatic security updates.
The Javascript language was originally developed by Netscape. Javascript functionality and support is built into popular browsers, and must be enabled in your browser. It requires no download. Java and Javascript are not the same thing, and have nothing to do with one another.
Browser notes
There are many browsers to choose from these days. I use Microsoft Windows for all this work, and I test this site using only the most popular browsers for Windows. It is not feasible to try every obscure browser out there, so I pick the most popular which can co-exist on my primary system.
I test and verify the look and feel, interaction, graphics display and behavior of my work with each of these popular browsers. I only use the newest versions. These are all free, so you (we) should always have the latest anyway! Please keep your browser updated.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Google Chrome
Opera
Apple Safari
Why test on all these browsers? Read this page.
How do I determine that these are the most popular browsers?
Here are some partial screenshots from Google Analytics regarding browsers to Roosl's Graphic Design. I update these here periodically just for you!
Browsers
Operating Systems
Browsers by Operating System
Other than the recommendations and suggestions above regarding purpose and allowances, here are any special notes regarding these tested browsers.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or newer (my default, still the most widely used)
Perfect. Settings are easy to find and change. Code changes I need to make because of bugs in other browsers work in IE either way. PNG image format is a newer and better format supporting transparency. Older versions of IE do not render PNG correctly, and they will appear to be inside a box.
Mozilla Firefox
Excellent. Settings are easy to find and change. Does not render text (fonts) or animations as well as IE. Code changes I need to make because of bugs in other browsers work in Firefox either way.
Google Chrome
OK. Default settings are good, easy to find and change. Like Safari, some rendering is askew, as some elements which align identically in the other browsers appear different in Chrome. This is easily accomodated, and otherwise good enough to not warrant significant code changes. Google aligned heavily with Adobe here, so I wouldn't trust Chrome regarding security issues.
Opera
OK, but.. It's cute that these folks allow the defaults to override w3c compliant content, such as style sheets and inline frames to ruin the appearance of a site as it is intended, but if the average user doesn't know where to find these settings (let alone want to experiment with all of them), good luck. Opera is nice, if you spend enough time finding the settings. This is silly, because it ruins the user's experience and they may not know why. It does not simply irritate the developer.
I find that these settings (under Preferences/Advanced tab/Content/Style options), if set as follows, will work. If not, my compliant code will display the message about an inept browser.
Under Display, check Enable inline frames
Under Presentation Modes, check all the boxes under User mode, and set Default mode to User mode.
Apple Safari
OK. Default settings are good, easy to find and change. Like Chrome, some rendering is askew, as some elements which align identically in the other browsers appear different in Safari. This is easily accomodated, and otherwise good enough to not warrant significant code changes. Safari is the only browser tested that does not render effects such as standard events (OnMouseOver, etc.), even though Javascript is enabled (unless I just can't find why).
Notices and FAQ
Well, most questions aren't frequent, but people look for "FAQ" for some reason, so here you go. Important notes and items of interest may be posted here, as well as responses to reasonable questions or comments. Also, you'll find how we may do business.
In March 2011, I decided to return again to Information Technology work full time. I continue to support my existing clients, and am only accepting certain new design work, which will only be done on weekends. If you have tried to contact me and I have not replied, it is because my mail filter (blocker) is now in active mode, and if you are not known (a "safe sender"), your message was likely deleted. See my Contact page if you care to know more.
Yes, my work is copyrighted. No, you can't.
Read my Copyright and Intellectual Property page!
How do we do business? What's all this about print-readiness?
See my Design Services page for complete design service details, info regarding print readiness and graphic requirements.
Where are your template designs?
This is not a template store. There is no shopping cart. I design custom graphics just for each client, not the same thing I did for myself or someone else.
I received junk (spam) mail from roosl.com.
No, you did not. It appears to be from me, but it is not. That is a tactic used by idiot cowards so that you and I don't know who they really are. Please read this notice. You can see that I have no need or purpose for sending e-mail regarding those topics.
Your site doesn't display well on my laptop!
I've heard that and seen other disappointing examples on small displays or systems set with low display resolution, color depth, large fonts, disabled browser functionality, etc. However, I have chosen to consider my intended audience, those with systems configured for high resolution. See the note above regarding the nature and purpose of this site.
Why don't I have a blog?
Roosl's Graphic Design is on Facebook, where you may leave comments, and even use the Discussions tab as a blog spot. Generally, I do not care to sit and waste my time in chat rooms with basal brainstems whacking on keyboards.
What happened to the guestbook?
It is obsolete. Please visit me on Facebook.
On Facebook, you may post visible feedback, and interact with other visitors.

What other contact information is available?
Here you'll find lots of Contact Information!
I've sent you e-mail but never got a response. Why?
It probably was blocked and deleted by my spam program. Go to the aforementioned Contact page. You can always post on my Facebook site. Also, please read this notice.
Why did you discontinue your newsletter?
I enjoyed doing the newsletter for many years. Some of the subscribers whom enjoyed it from the beginning have moved on or are dead. Due to lack of interest and little or no response from readers, it became a disappointing waste of time and space.
Is it OK to use imagery from the gallery for my wallpaper?
Well, since I can hardly stop you from using your browser's "save as" function, yes. In fact, if you ask nicely, I can send you a BMP or JPG format, rendered in all its high resolution glory specifically for your screen resolution of any scene you like. Just send me an e-mail and specify which image and what resolution (such as 1680x1050, 1280x1024..). That way, you won't have to center it (and have an ugly square around it) or stretch it to fit (you'll ruin it). Please use this special mail link for your request. However...
Is it OK to copy or use my work for anything else?
No. I've gone over this with many folks. Just because your browser lets you see things on the internet doesn't mean it's OK to take, use or abuse whatever you see. You may use my artwork for your personal desktop wallpaper (and tell all your co-workers about this cool site where you found it). Any other use is copyright infringement. You did read my copyright statement, right? If you will contact me, we can discuss what it is you wish to do. In some cases, I may grant permission, depending on the use you plan to make of my work. In such cases, I will ask that you acknowledge authorship and origin, and maintain acknowledgement and a link to this website if used anywhere on the web. You may purchase a license from me to use my existing work. Any of my work published outside this website must have been purchased by the publisher, or licensed by me to be published. Much of my work may be purchased, and if you want custom original art created just for you, that is available too!
Please use this
special mail link for your request. If you don't get a response, see that answer above.
What happened to the page with the animated R. Crumb and mantis?
I got rid of a lot of old junk years ago, but since I had a few inquiries about the Mantis, here is a page for some fun and animation. It includes the mantis, and other fun stuff!
Got a question? Comment? Profound revelation? Send it!
I've got some cool and fun stuff here, and maybe you'll find something you like! Visit awhile, and just browse around all you want.
See my collection of artwork I'm building using 3D modeling and raytracing. I'll also tell you how I create the images you see here.
Visit my gallery.
You'll find a little humor, various interests and references peppered throughout these pages, as well as a few surprises (just move your mouse over some of the graphics and see what happens), animation and many 3-D graphics.
Thanks for stopping by.
