- Logos and related Designs
- Other designs
- High resolution site graphics. JPEG, GIF, 3D, animation, mouse-over interactions, banners and more.
- Cover art - For print application such as book covers, CDs, posters, etc., I'll design your cover and provide industry standard, print ready PDF files. You may choose an image you like from the gallery, or I'll create something new based on your idea.
- Any Graphic Production - For any offline print application (raster and vector), I'll design your business card, letterhead, book cover, magazine spread (layout), "whatever" and provide industry standard, print ready PDF files.
- Icons - If you develop software, I can create standard Windows and Apple icons (as well as iPhone and Android) from your logo or other image.
- I am also available for many site design needs for the startup, small business, professional and individual.
- No forms, no cart, no templates!
- Personal, one-on-one service and support. I work with you.
- Custom graphics just for you, not the same thing I did for another client.
- Customized, personal, secure PayPal transactions.
- Access to your own customized, personal download page for all your project files (example: Roosl.com/clients/YourName/).
- I sometimes feature clients on my business Facebook page with links to their websites. As well, toward part of your branding effort, I can also help you with building your Facebook page.
In March 2011, I decided to return again to Information Technology work full time. I continue to support my existing clients, and am only accepting certain new design work, which will only be done on weekends. If you have tried to contact me and I have not replied, it is because my mail filter (blocker) is now in active mode, and if you are not known (a "safe sender"), your message was likely deleted. See my Contact page if you care to know more.
A few business related statements are in order:
Do not assume that my own graphics on this site are the style I will provide for you (unless that is what you want). Don't assume that any sample work here is all that is available to you. This is NOT a template shop. I will provide custom design work just for you, not the same thing I did for myself or another client. Also, as noted in the details below, I will need a little information from you. In order to send you any conceptual ideas, and certainly to meet your needs, I need to know something about you and what you are looking for. I invite you to review the extensive service details below, and view my portfolio.
If your decision process prior to engaging a designer warrants up front concept previews before any real work is begun, I may provide such on a limited basis if requested. Beyond that, I will not engage in ongoing trial and error design guesswork unless you have retained my services.
Conceptual designs submitted for proposals are the intellectual property of Roosl's Graphic Design and are subject to my copyright statement, displayed prominently throughout this site.
Work for some potential clients arrives in my pipeline via websites where designers bid on posted RFPs (request for proposal). Most folks using those services are great to work with, but for whatever reason, some of the people who post RFPs never respond to an RFI (request for information), or fail to provide adequate information. If you are here from one of those sites, I'm happy that you found your way here.
As an experienced professional, I will not offer cheap work for the sake of playing "low bidder" games. I will not compromise quality or pride in my work. I do not offer my services here or on any bidding website simply to compete with the cheap and unethical, or offshore.
I do this work because it is fun, and to offer good stuff to sincere customers. My happiest clients receive extra value, not cheap work. A $200.00 logo job results in a package and support to meet all your needs, and is much more than one graphic image. It will never be a $15.00 logo. What do you really expect to receive for $15.00? The adage "you get what you pay for" has never been more true than here and now. Numerous times I've seen the same person or company return to a bidding site because their previous choice of the cheap option was another failure. The unique service and support you get from me is outlined below.
A bid to work on your project will include an RFI. Unless your decision process only includes looking at someone's portfolio or website, please reply via e-Mail (or other means provided). If you do not, I may not have enough information in order to propose any concept ideas for you. In any case, the information requested represents that which I will need from you in order to begin work. I enjoy doing design work very much, but I am selective in choosing the projects I want to work on, and will only work with people who have the courtesy to reply to a proposal or e-mail, and are concerned enough about their own project to read a proposal and provide requested information and feedback.

Rates for your project will vary depending on complexity, but are always fair and competitive, based on comparable work and your budget. We may also negotiate to meet your needs. I've done work for free. I've also sold artwork to webmasters for a couple of hundred bucks. Custom work is always available, and it never hurts either of us for you to ask questions first.
My standard rate is $50.00 per hour. Logo design, which results in a complete package and follow-up support to insure that it is ready for each of your needs, has a default cost of $200.00.
I use PayPal for all transactions. I will e-mail you a personalized PayPal page for 50 percent earnest (down) payment to begin work, and for your balance when the project is finished. A project with a cost of less than $200.00 must be paid in full before I begin work. If you don't have a PayPal account, you may use any of several popular credit cards. Transactions are secure!
When we arrange for any graphics project, there is information and content I need from you in order to provide you with a quality product. If you need a logo for example, please give me details. Some people ask for a proposal but don't even provide the name (branding). Not many designers are clairvoyant. I cannot design around vapor, and I cannot read your mind. You may expect certain things from me too, such as honesty, communication, security and quality support (more below).
In preparation for any project, and until it is ready for delivery, there are often things you need to know, and items you will need to provide. I will communicate with you to be certain things are right, and may offer suggestions. The more you know and have up front, the quicker work can begin.
If you are wanting a logo, think about what that means. A logo should be simple, stand alone, and fit in a variety of places. A logo is not an illustration loaded with graphics and slogans. A logo is not a design for a beer bottle label. An illustration or a label design may include your logo as a part of that larger design. Consider your business card. It's 2 x 3.5 inches. Your logo could occupy half of your card (which leaves little room for the card's intent), but should fit in a corner.
So you know: A "logo" or "logotype" is composed of typography and does not have drawings (think Coca-Cola). An "isotype" is a figurative image, a drawing representing a company without typography (think Nike's swoosh or Apple). An "isologotype" combines a logo with isotype, having a drawing and typography. I might begin with type, but combine the vector paths of converted fonts to create a graphic based on lettering. The result may then be considered an isotype.
Some of the information below is regarding print-readiness. If you need any graphic work to be taken to a printer, and are not familiar with this, it is very important for you to know. These are industry standard requirements, not mine. Your printer or sign maker will have exacting specifications for files, formats, sizes and other things you need to know.
Things I will need from you, and information for you:
-
Exactly what it is you want done. Be as detailed as possible.
- What is it for? Is it for print (cover art, magazine spread)? Website graphics? Signage?
- How big is it? Whether it's for print or not, I need to know the dimensions you need. If it's for print, your printer will need to know that and will have exacting requirements you need to meet for his work (more below). If it's not for print, I still need to know at least approximate sizes.
- What kind of layout do you want? Flat, pages (facing, folds, columns), will there be photos, etc.?
- If it's not for print, what will it be used for? If I design graphics for your website, I want to give you quality resolution and the right size(s). If you ask for an image of one size, then you decide to resize it (or use width and height constraints to alter the aspect ratio), you'll probably end up with a crappy looking image.
- If it's not for print, still consider whether you'll have a later need to use it in print. For example, if you get a logo graphic for your website, then later decide you want to use it in brochures or a magazine ad, it will have to be available in at least two formats, and in both high resolution and standard (monitor/display) resolution.
- Let's be certain that your art is right for you and your needs!
- Be certain you let me know how soon you need your project completed. Be realistic. It may take a few weeks to finish, depending on complexity and the number of other projects I have in the queue. It may also only take one day!
- If you have existing artwork or photo(s) you want me to use, it must be a high resolution, quality image, in a least 300 dpi resolution. For example, pictures or graphics copied from a website will not work. Otherwise, the final product will have a terrible appearance. One cannot increase the dpi in a low resolution image. For every aspect of your job, remember the rule: "garbage in, garbage out". For cover art, you may choose existing artwork from my gallery that you like (if it has not been sold to someone else), and I will produce a 300 dpi version of it for your project. Otherwise, I can also produce something new for you, based on your idea.
- If your project includes text of any kind, you need to send me exactly what you want. This also insures that words and names are spelled and arranged exactly the way you want them. If you want specific font(s), let me know, though I cannot guarantee I have every odd font in the world available.
- For print, I need to know the exact dimensions you (your printer) need for the final printed product. CD inserts have a standard size, but if, for example, you want CD cover art and it's for sleeves instead of a jewel case, that's different. Whatever it is you want me to produce, get the exact dimensions or ask your printer to provide a template.
- Be certain you know what your vendor (printer, sign maker) is expecting from you, and understand his prices. If you and I develop a full color job, and you find out later that his price only includes two or 3 colors or black and white, you have a problem to resolve with your vendor. You must let me know exactly what format he expects from you. Most reputable printers accept newer standards, but if he needs a specific PDF compatible format (or profile), for example, I need to know exactly what to send.
- As info, here is a standard list of print readiness requirements and a link to a good choice for an online printing service.
- Graphics for logos and any larger job such as signage, are originally developed as vector graphics. This insures scalability without losing artwork quality. I can size this art down to postage stamp size or to very large dimensions before generating raster images or custom exports for your needs.
- When we agree on your project and cost, I'll set up your personal preview and download page, send you a welcome notice with client information and a link to a PayPal page for 50 percent earnest payment to start your project.
You can expect the following from me:
- Personal, dedicated attention to you and your project. I don't hide behind a "contact us" form. You may call me at anytime, and I personally respond to all e-mail.
- An honest quote on your job. I will not bill you for more than we agree on in the beginning.
- Before final processing, you will have received previews of your project, so you know how it looks as we progress through development and revisions.
-
Upon completion of your project, I will send you a link to a PayPal page customized for your job and final balance. When that has been processed, I'll provide your final project using the method best for you.
- PDF file(s). For print jobs which you can take or send to your printer or sign maker.
- Zip file(s). For any files, such as web graphics, logo images, and more.
-
You may also choose how to have your files delivered.
- Your own customized client area here, where you review your designs and may download your files at any time. Your client area at Roosl.com is not published or linked, except to you and is always available.
- E-mail.
- CD, delivered via USPS.
- If I retain you as a client (you retain me as your designer), your files will be maintained and backed up.
For online (not for print) graphics and other work, some of the above requirements do not apply. Projects for print require different graphic file format and high resolution, and you cannot use one format for application in the other.
Unless you request that I not do so, I may post some of your graphics on this site as examples. I will also be happy to include a link to your site if you like.
